Your first visit, start to finish.

Nothing on this page is a surprise on the day. Here is the whole appointment in order, what to bring, what it costs, and what happens with your health fund at the desk.

New patients

Assessment and treatment, $79.

$79Usually $110

A full 45 minute assessment and your first treatment in the same appointment, with a physiotherapist or a chiropractor. You leave with a written plan and a realistic idea of how long this should take.

  • 45 minutes, not 15
  • Assessment and treatment together
  • A written plan you can take away
  • HICAPS on the spot, so you pay the gap
  • No lock in packages, ever

One per person, for people who have not been treated here before. Not available with a health fund rebate on the same visit, since the offer already sits below the rebate price. Available at both rooms.

01The appointment

Forty five minutes, four parts.

You will do more talking in the first ten minutes than you expect, and that part matters more than any test we could run on you.

Arrive ten minutes early

There is a short form at the desk: contact details, a medical history and a consent to treat. You can fill it in on the tablet or on paper. If you would rather do it at home, ask us to email it when you book.

1

We ask, you talk

What hurts, when it started, what makes it worse, what you have already tried, and what you actually need to get back to. Bring the detail. It changes the diagnosis more often than the hands on tests do.

About 10 minutes
2

We look at how you move

Bending, reaching, squatting, walking, and the specific movements that hurt. We measure what can be measured and write the numbers down, so the change is visible in three weeks rather than remembered.

About 10 minutes
3

Treatment on the day

Hands on soft tissue work, joint mobilising, an adjustment or dry needling, depending on what we found. You do not go home having only been assessed and booked in again.

About 20 minutes
4

A plan, in writing

Two or three things to do at home, with pictures, and an honest estimate of how many visits this should take. If we turn out to be wrong about that, we tell you rather than quietly extending it.

About 5 minutes
02Before you come in

What to bring, what to wear.

Bring

The paperwork

  • Your private health fund card
  • Any GP referral or care plan
  • Scans or reports, on disc or on your phone
  • A list of the medication you take
  • Your claim number, for a work or road injury

None of it is essential on the day. It just saves a phone call later.

Wear

Something you can move in

  • Shorts for a knee, hip or ankle
  • A singlet or loose top for a shoulder or neck
  • Runners if the problem shows up when you run
  • Anything you can bend and squat in

There are gowns, towels and a private change room if you come straight from work. Nothing is removed without asking you first.

Know

A few small things

  • You may bring someone into the room with you
  • You can ask for a male or female practitioner
  • You can stop the treatment at any point
  • Interpreter bookings need two days notice
  • Both rooms have step free access
03Paying

HICAPS at the desk, so you pay the gap.

How the money works

Private health extras

Tap your fund card on our terminal and the rebate comes off straight away. You pay the difference, usually somewhere between $30 and $60 for a physio visit depending on your level of cover.

Medicare care plan

A chronic disease management plan from your GP covers part of up to five visits in a calendar year. We bulk bill those, so there is nothing to pay on the day. Bring the referral form with you.

WorkCover and CTP

Once the insurer has approved the claim we bill them directly. Bring the claim number and the insurer name to the first appointment and we take it from there.

Everything else

Card, phone or cash at the desk. We do not take payment before the appointment and there is no booking fee.

If money is the reason you are not booking, say so

Ring the desk and ask. We keep a small number of reduced fee appointments each week for people between jobs or on a pension, and nobody at the counter will ask you to justify it.

04The fine print

Cancelling, and running late.

We hold a specific person for a specific hour, so a late cancellation usually means an empty room. That said, life happens and we are not unreasonable about it.

  • More than 12 hours notice: no charge, no questions
  • Less than 12 hours: half the appointment fee
  • Not arriving at all: the full fee
  • Sick, or a child is sick: no charge, just tell us
  • Running late: we treat you for whatever time is left

Health funds do not pay rebates on cancellation fees, so those ones come out of your own pocket. We send a text reminder the day before to make it less likely.

05Questions

Common questions.

Do I need a referral

No. You can book physiotherapy, chiropractic care or massage yourself. A referral only matters if you want to claim through Medicare, DVA or an insurer.

Will I be sore afterwards

Sometimes, for a day. Hands on work and needling can leave a dull ache like the day after a gym session. It should be settling by the second day, and if it is not, ring us.

Can I bring my kids

Yes. There is room for a pram beside the plinth at both clinics and a box of things to play with at the front desk.

Do you treat children

We treat teenagers with sporting injuries from about twelve. For younger children we refer to a paediatric physiotherapist, because it is a different skill set and we would rather you saw someone who does it every day.

What if I need a scan or a specialist

We write to your GP with what we found and what we think is needed. We cannot order an MRI ourselves, but a clear letter usually makes that conversation short.
